Heavenly Perspective

From the end of the earth will I cry unto thee, when my heart is overwhelmed: lead me to the Rock that is higher than I. (Ps. 61:2)

When I was a child, I loved to climb trees; I would climb as high as possible so I could see everything. When you are higher, your perspective immediately changes. What seemed large and looming is now much smaller and less overwhelming. What seemed to be the only thing that mattered, the object of all attention, is now seen relative to its surroundings – the other pieces of the puzzle fit in place.

Perspective changes everything.

When I am seated at the highest point, I see so much more. There is an immediate distance from the “problem.” There is an elevation of mind and mood as I am surrounded by beauty. The very act of climbing requires focused concentration, step by step, or I will plummet to the ground. When I am immersed in the beauty of creation, I begin to see the intricacies of each part – the varied shades and textures of the bark, the veins and variations of the leaves, the birds calling out one to another as they soar above, the clouds forming into infinite, ever changing designs. How can my perspective not change? I am immediately cognizant of God’s magnificence, His brilliance, His goodness, His design.

Perspective changes everything.

Lead me to the Rock that is higher than I. Oh yes, the Rock Himself. I think of the mountains, the heights of granite – steadfast, immoveable, a foundation that cannot be shaken.

  • You are my Savior, Healer, Deliverer, Redeemer, Provider…ever faithful, always on time, working all things to my good.

  • The pre-existing one from whom all things are formed.

  • Your thoughts are higher than our thoughts, your ways higher than ours.

  • You see and know from an eternal perspective.

  • Before the world was, you were, and after the world ceases to be, you will still be.

  • In you, there is no shadow of turning.

  • You are the same yesterday, today and forever.

  • Your Truth is everlasting.

Our troubles are real, yet I know that nothing escapes your knowing, and that regardless of what I see, you will be glorified. For you have your ways, that are higher than ours, beyond our limited understanding, and all things are filtered through your hands…there is not a hair on my head that you don’t know about, and those things I have committed to your keeping, you are well able to perform.

  • You are good, and your mercy endures forever.

  • You work all things out after the counsel of your own will, and you are good.

  • The generations of the upright shall be blessed.

Perspective changes everything.
